Family Group Meetings
Independent convening that brings family and key supports together to create a shared plan focused on children’s safety, wellbeing and connection.
What it is
A strengths-based meeting that puts family at the centre
Family Group Meetings (FGMs) are structured conversations where family members, carers and important supports come together to make decisions and develop a plan.
We provide a calm, culturally respectful process that helps everyone be heard, clarifies concerns and goals, and supports practical next steps that can be reviewed over time.
How it helps
Clear plans, shared understanding, safer outcomes
Our approach
What to expect from the process
We tailor each meeting to the family’s situation and referral context. The steps below outline a typical Family Group Meeting pathway.
1) Referral and intake
We confirm the purpose of the meeting, participants, timeframes and any safety considerations, and explain the process in plain language.
2) Preparation and planning
We meet with key people (including children/young people where appropriate) to understand perspectives, identify supports and plan for safe participation.
3) The Family Group Meeting
A facilitated meeting that supports respectful discussion, shared understanding and decision-making, leading to an agreed plan.
4) Plan finalisation and follow-up
We document the plan, confirm responsibilities and review points, and support referrals or coordination as needed.
